Dr. Workneh Ayalew

Workneh is a research scientist working with the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) in Ethiopia, after having worked for the Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Agency (ATA) as Director of the Livestock Value Chains, and as Deputy Director General (research) for the Papua New Guinea National Agricultural Research Institute. He had served as President of the Ethiopian Society of Animal Production (ESAP), Secretary and Assistant Editor of the Editorial Board of the Ethiopian Journal of Animal Production (EJAP) for several years.

Workneh holds a PhD degree (2000) in animal production and breeding from the Georg-August University of Goettingen, Germany, MSc degree (1992) in animal breeding from the Alemaya University of Agriculture, Ethiopia, and BSc (Honors, 1984) in animal sciences, from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. His contributions to the scientific literature include 62 journal articles, 28 book chapters and 69 articles in conference proceedings. He provided academic supervision and thesis research guidance to 26 students on PhD, MSc and DVM studies in and outside Ethiopia. He is a regular reviewer to several peer reviewed journal articles in livestock science. Workneh received professional awards and recognitions for meritorious service and research leadership and has been a fellow of the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences since October 2017.
